Brandesburton Neighbourhood Watch

Neighbourhood Watch is a Crime Prevention initiative:
To cut crime and opportunities for crime
To help and reassure those who live in the area
To encourage neighbourhoodliness and closer communities
To have an active partnership with the local police

We have our notice board next to the Post Office which is kept up to date with any crime news. We put notices in the "Brandesburton Buzz" and "Brands News".

Naturally, the more people that attend the meetings the better it will be for the village. Teenagers and young people are especially welcome because it would be useful to hear their ideas.

For more information on the Brandesburton Neighbourhood Watch scheme please contact Susan Youngson on 01964 543194 or email

The Minutes of Brandesburton Neighbourhood Watch held on

Monday 24th October 2011.

PC Janet Bates was  present. Geoff Youngson chaired the meeting which 7 people attended.

Apologies were received from Mrs Mossford and Mrs Harrison.

The minutes were read and signed.

Youths in the village have been a nuisance mainly in the Boardman Lane and Main St areas on some Friday and Saturday nights. It is about the time people are leaving the pubs and clubs. It is distressing to have people damaging property and knocking on doors. PC Bates stressed that the police should be notified and made aware of the trouble and upset this behaviour is causing.

No further shed break in since the summer.

The hedge around the churchyard has been cut and several trees have been removed making much easier to see the church.

20 mph signs in the village are not enforceable in law. It was suggested that sleeping policemen near the school could be considered. This is a Parish Council matter rather than a Neighbourhood Watch matter. Crossing the dual carriageway from Main St. towards the Parish Hall is dangerous. This is awaiting the highways to prune some trees to increase visibility.

Next month the council will take over parking from the police.

It was asked if a copy of the minutes could be sent to the Parish Council. This was agreed with. The meeting closed at 8.3
