The Darby & Joan Club is open to anyone over the age
of 60 and meets fortnightly on a Thursday afternoon between 2pm and
4.15pm.
For the first hour of the meeting members
either play Whist or Dominoes (we also have a scrabble board for those not
interested in the above). Following this
we have a few games of Bingo for small prizes (generally chocolate based!).
We also have a competition where members
bring an item to be judged by the helpers – points are awarded and at the annual
Birthday party a silver tray is awarded to the member with the most
points.
We also have a raffle of small items each
week – each member brings something and then buys a raffle ticket and takes home
a prize.
This is then followed by afternoon tea –
homemade sandwiches and cakes provided by the helpers.
Other activities during the year include
two outings, one in June and one in September.
There is also a coffee morning in the
Spring and an Autumn Fayre in October.
The annual Birthday Party is held in November and the year is rounded off
with a Christmas Dinner at the Dacre Arms.
We are always on the lookout for new
members and anyone interested can contact any of the following for advice and
information.
